Probate accountants

Support Administering your estate

ABG’s specialist legal services team consists of qualified and regulated probate accountants and tax advisers. The team provide expert advice to Trusts and Executors in order to deal with all aspects of administering an Estate following a death.

Our registered probate accountants will help with:

  • Making a Probate application to the Probate Registry for the Grant of Representation, receiving and administering this.
  • Assist in the review of all paperwork and place statutory notices in local newspapers
  • Collate all the information required and submit this to HMRC
  • Pay all debts due
  • Pay all legacies
  • Finalise the estate tax
  • Distribute the residue of the Estate

Securing probate can involve a number of accounting services. For example we may be required to complete the books and records for the deceased’s partnership or sole trader activities. We may also be required in some circumstances to liaise with HMRC in connection with income tax challenges from previous years.

Each case is individual, no two Estates are the same. At ABG our team will always treat it as such with empathy, care and compassion.

For the sake of transparency our legal services team charge on a time-spent basis. This means that we will only ever charge you for work we complete on behalf of the Estate and its Executors.

Free initial consultation

As with all our services we offer a complimentary initial meeting. This meeting is carried out at no cost to you. This meeting can be carried out in person, over the phone or online.

During our initial meeting we will gather the information we need to provide you with an accurate description of the work we need to carry out and an estimate of our fees.

Fee estimates

Our fees are not based on a percentage of the estate. This is not a practice that we support.

We will always agree a fee estimate with you in advance and the fee estimate will be reviewed as your matter progresses.

If it becomes apparent during the process that more time will be needed to complete the work, we will contact you to discuss any required revision to your fee estimate before we continue to proceed.

Hourly Rates Charged

The hourly rates charged by us depend upon the experience of the individual required to carry out the task. We will endeavour to ensure that our work is always handled by the appropriate level of staff at the appropriate hourly rate in order to provide the Estate with a value-added service.

As an Executor of an Estate, in many cases you will need to obtain a Grant of Probate. This will incur certain necessary disbursements. These disbursements can be paid by the Estate and they can include the following:

Probate application fee £155 (plus £1.50 per additional court certified copy)

Share valuations (fees will be assessed on a case-by-case basis)

Bankruptcy-only Land Charges searches (£2 per beneficiary).

Notices in the London Gazette and/or local newspapers circa £200. (We always recommend that this is carried out to avoid unexpected claims from unknown creditors.)

If you wish to speak to a member of our probate team please contact us on 020 7330 0000 or complete our contact form and we will revert back to you within 24 hours.
